Antibacterial and antifungal activity - In vitro studies have found spearmint, peppermint, and other mints to inhibit the growth of, and kill, harmful bacteria, including MSRA (a dangerous antibiotic-resistant strain of bacteria). Spearmint also has been shown to prevent the growth of a number of types of harmful fungi.
Stomach & gastrointestinal benefits - Peppermint has been traditionally used to settle the stomach and treat certain gastrointestinal problems. There is some evidence that it is effective at treating irritable bowel syndrome.

Studies for a period of four years, scientists in Singapore adds a long list of benefits of tea. Each type of tea will provide the same benefits, says Professor Ng Tze Pin from the Department of Medicine for Mental Health National University of Singapore told The Sunday Times.

The team of scientists is studying the habits of drinking tea of 2,501 Chinese people aged 55 and above from September 2003 to December 2005.

Approximately 38 % did not drink tea. 29% drank only one type of tea and the rest drank various types of tea. Two-thirds of the tea drinkers maintain its value in memory tests two years later. When deciding between many drink options available, one of the best drinks for your oral health is brewed tea, according to a study in the July/August issue of General Dentistry, the clinical, peer-reviewed journal of the Academy of General Dentistry.

The study found that the effect of tea on tooth enamel was similar to that of water, which has no erosive effect. The study clearly showed that drinking brewed teas resulted in dramatically less enamel loss than drinking soft drinks and fruit juices.

Although this study used both green and black teas in testing, another recent study conducted in Japan found that green tea has added oral health benefits due to the natural antioxidant compounds called catechins that are in it.

This study, published in the Journal of Periodontology, focused on 940 Japanese men aged 49-59 who had some indications of gum (periodontal) disease such as bleeding or receding gums. Virtually all who drank a minimum of one cup of green tea each day showed improvement in gum recession and their gums bled less, too. The researchers suggested that the improvement was the result of catechins in the green tea that interfere with the inflammation that results from bacteria in the mouth.

With all the benefits of drinking tea (especially green tea), there’s no reason not to try it out. Just remember – don’t add sugar to your tea. The bacteria in your mouth feed on sugar and produce acids that eat away at the enamel of your teeth and irritate your gums. You should also avoid prepackaged, bottled iced teas because they contain citric acid (which can wear away tooth enamel) and high amounts of sugars.

3 Cups of Tea A Day, Reduce The Risk of Breast Cancer


Want to avoid a deadly cancer? Try to live a healthy lifestyle, start by drinking tea regularly.
According to research in the United States, women who regularly consume 3 cups of tea per day is believed to avoid the attack of breast cancer.
A group of scientists from the Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Florida, revealed that tumor growth can be inhibited up to 37% when women consume tea at least 3 times a day,  but unfortunately the benefit of tea only affects young women aged less than 50 years. While in women aged over 50 years, the tea does not provide the same benefits  though they consume the same amount. According to the researchers, anti-cancer contained in tea inhibit tumor that tends to grow stronger in young women.

Consume tea regularly, with an amount sufficient to reduce the risk of breast cancer in young women, Said the Researchers.
The study, led by Dr. Nagi Kumar, involving 5,000 women aged between 20-74 years who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Then they  compared the medical history and lifestyle of the women with cancer with a group of women without breast cancer. Research has found that women who regularly consume tea to avoid the risk of breast cancer by 66%.

"Tea is a beverage that is generally more often consumed by people in the world. Tea will be one of drug to prevent breast cancer in women." Say scientists.
